Land clearing turns bush you cannot use into ground you can build on, farm or mow. We clear house lots, fence lines, field edges and whole acreages, and we finish by getting the soil ready for grass.
Our main clearing tool is a forestry mulcher on a skid steer. It grinds brush, saplings and small trees into chips right where they stand. There is no burn pile and far less hauling, and the chips cover the bare soil so it does not wash away while it recovers. Mulching works well on overgrown fields, thick brush and lot lines that have gone wild.
Trees too big for the mulcher come down with the excavator. We fell them, move the logs with the skid steer and stack them where you want. If you plan to mow or build, we pull the stumps and fill the holes. If the area is staying wooded, we can leave them low and save you the cost.
In 2025 we took nearly five acres of overgrown forest back to open ground. The mulcher went through first. Then the tractor put in more than 20 hours conditioning the soil and getting it seeded for grass. Around the same time, our clearing work went through more than 6,000 litres of diesel in six weeks. You can see that job and others on our projects page.
Freshly cleared land is rough. Roots, chips and bumps are left behind. We work the soil with the tractor, rake out debris and seed it. If you are building, the same crew can move straight on to grading and the foundation dig, so the lot is ready when the house is.
Some woodlots, wetlands and land near the Grand River and its creeks come with rules about cutting. We go over the property lines and any mapping with you before the mulcher arrives, so nothing gets cleared that should stay.
It depends on where the trees are. Larger woodlots can fall under a municipal tree-cutting bylaw, and land near rivers, wetlands or steep slopes may need a Grand River Conservation Authority permit. We help you check before we cut.
Brush and small trees are ground into chips that stay on the ground or get worked into the soil. Logs worth keeping are stacked for you to cut into firewood. Anything else we haul away.
Fall and winter work well because the ground is firm and the leaves are down, so we can see what we are cutting. Spring and summer clearing is possible, but we check for active bird nests first because they are protected.

Excavation
Topsoil stripped and saved, rough and final grade set with a laser, and the ground sloped so water leaves the house. For new lots and older yards.
We take down houses, barns, garages and commercial buildings, haul the debris and leave a clean, level site ready for what comes next.
