New shop floor in an old barn
New shop floor in an old barn with a large front extension, a channel drain for washing vehicles, utilities under the slab and a parking pad at the house.

Concrete
Slabs for garages, shops, barns and sheds, with drains, conduit and water lines placed before the pour and a finish that suits how you use the floor.
Since 2025 · Locally owned, St. George, ON
A floor in a shop or barn takes more abuse than any other concrete on your property. Tractors, trucks, jacks and dropped tools all land on it. We pour garage slabs, shop floors, barn floors and shed pads built for that kind of use.
In 2025 we poured a new floor in an old barn that was becoming a shop. The job included a large extension on the front, a channel drain so the owner could wash vehicles inside, utilities run under the slab, and a parking pad up by the house. It shows how much planning happens before the concrete truck arrives.
Once a floor is poured, anything under it is there for good. Before we pour, we sit down with you and mark where drains, water lines and electrical conduit should run. Our trenching crew digs the trenches that bring water and hydro to the building, so those lines come up where the slab needs them.
A floor is only as good as what it sits on. We remove soft material, place crushed stone and pack it in layers. Then we set rebar or mesh on chairs so the steel ends up in the middle of the slab, not lying at the bottom. A shop that will carry a hoist, a loader or heavy equipment needs a thicker slab, and we size it to how you will use it. Slabs that face the weather, like an apron or a parking pad, get 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. Interior floors that get a hard steel-trowel finish use a mix without added air, because entrained air can make a troweled surface blister or peel.
Shop and garage floors usually get a smooth steel-trowel finish, which is easy to sweep and easy to roll a creeper on. Barn alleys and wash bays can get a broom finish for grip. If you wash inside, we slope the floor to the drain.
Not every job is a big shop. We also pour pads for sheds and small outbuildings, and we can add a parking pad or apron while the crew and truck are already on site.
Plan on at least 150 mm (6 inches) with rebar, and check the hoist maker's requirements, since some call for a thicker pad under the posts. A regular garage slab with no hoist is usually around 100 mm.
If you wash vehicles or equipment inside, yes. We set a gentle fall toward the channel drain or floor drain so water does not sit. For a dry storage floor we keep it close to flat.
A sealer makes the floor easier to clean and helps it resist oil, salt and stains. It is worth doing on garage and shop floors once the concrete has cured.
