Exposed aggregate driveway replacement, Brantford
Removed a heaved driveway, rebuilt the base and poured an exposed aggregate driveway with integral colour. The front walkway followed the same week.

Concrete
Driveways poured on a proper compacted base, with the right mix and control joints, so they survive freeze-thaw winters.

A concrete driveway should outlast the car you park on it. The pour is the easy part. What makes it last is the base underneath, the drainage, the mix and the joints.
Freeze-thaw is what kills driveways here. Water gets under a slab, freezes, lifts it, and cracks it. We dig out soft material, place and compact a granular base, and slope the surface so water runs off instead of sitting. We pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, which handles salt and frost far better than a basic mix, and we cut control joints so any movement happens along a straight line instead of across your driveway.
Most of our driveway work in Brantford and Paris is replacing an old, heaved asphalt or concrete driveway. We break out and haul away the old surface, fix the base, and pour new. Because our excavation company does the removal and base work, you are not coordinating two contractors or paying two mobilization fees.
Broom finish is the standard: clean, grippy in winter, and the best value. If you want more, we also pour exposed aggregate and stamped concrete, and we can add integral colour so the colour runs through the slab instead of sitting on top. Our decorative page covers the options.
A two-car driveway usually takes three to five days from removal to finished pour, with another week before you drive on it. We tell you the plan up front, keep the site tidy, and protect your lawn and walkways from the truck.
Widening a driveway or changing the curb cut may need approval from the City of Brantford or the County of Brant. We will tell you if your plan needs one and what to ask for.
Keep cars off for seven days. You can walk on it after 24 to 48 hours. Full strength takes about 28 days, so avoid heavy trucks for the first month.
Most cracks come from a bad base or missing joints. We compact the base, use mesh or rebar, and cut control joints so any movement happens where it should.
Yes. Air-entrained 32 MPa concrete handles freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salt much better than a basic mix, which matters in Brant County winters.
Yes, as long as temperatures stay above freezing for the cure. Late fall pours get blankets if nights get cold. We will tell you honestly if it should wait for spring.
